Granite & Marble

Granite is a igneous rock found deep in the earth’s crust. It’s natural beauty and durability make it an excellent choice for kitchen & bathroom countertops. Granite is incredibly hard, heat resistant, and durable. However, the stone is naturally porous and needs to be sealed once per year.

Marble is a metamorphic rock comprised mostly of calcite. It’s beauty is unparalleled, however the rock itself is very soft and therefore requires a lot of maintenance to prevent scratching. In addition, marble is more porous than granite and requires sealing more often. Lastly, marble is susceptible to damage from acid, therefore it is not suitable for kitchen applications. We recommend marble only for bathroom use.

Radioactivity in Granite

In recent times there has been reports of radioactivity in granite countertops. This is both true and false. While technically there is background radiation in granite (as there is in just about everything in our day to day lives), this radiation is so small it produces absolutely zero risk to humans.
